Vinod Rawat, a police official at Chamoli, told TOI, “Despite our best efforts, we were unable to contact their families. Meanwhile, efforts to trace the families of the victims were not being met with much success. They travelled to Auli by ropeway the next day and were supposed to return on December 15," Choubey said. "After reaching Joshimath on December 12, they checked into a guest house of the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. Based on the information police officials have been able to piece together till now, both the tourists boarded a Mumbai-Dehradun flight on December 8 and stayed at Haridwar till December 12 before leaving for Joshimath. After being alerted by a tourist, a team of the State Disaster Response Force and Chamoli police reached the spot and recovered the bodies, which have been sent for post-mortem, the SP added.
